Synchronicity Records 002 - Thology

Our mates at Synchronicity Records have just dropped their 2nd release and it’s a corker! Thology, otherwise known as Peter Carr from High Wycombe crafts five inimitable atmospheric pieces for Synchronicity on his first otherworldly release.

Opening piece ‘Conquer’ beautifully melds classical melodies with swinging percussion to create a sweeping dreamlike composition. Featuring the outstanding violin of Joel Grainger, Thology lays down a soft bed of swinging tribal drums whilst Joel lightly but majestically weaves his way through the captivating arrangement.

‘Go There’ follows with Thology utilising a masterfully cut-up vocal sample which he pitches up and down to create a delightfully playful melody. Hand claps also play a prominent feature intertwining with the rhythm creating a incomparable backbone to the song

‘Fire’ ups the tempo and energy with harder hitting drum kicks and snares along with rude boy vocal showing the versatility of the package and the producer.

Next is ‘Soothe Your Soul’, an amalgamation of the smooth instrumentation and the more pulsating percussion on show here.

Ending things with ‘Late Lurk’ which almost plays like a introspective R’n’B instrumental with Thology’s use of yearning echoed vocals providing the soul and soft pads the atmosphere.

The Introspect EP shows a producer flourishing in a wave of lush sounds. Offering a little something for everyone, this EP would be at home featuring in sets from house through to dubstep. The five contrasting efforts on hand gifts the listener with a versatile package from a talent that is surely one to treasure and watch flourish in the future.

Blacksmif - …And The Sun Rose Out EP [SYNCHRO-001]

Our good friends over at Family Tree Records unveil their sister project, Synchronicity, with a release from UK producer Yemi Olagbaiye, aka Blacksmif.

…And The Sun Rose Out EP, released on Friday 2nd March, presents four finely crafted tracks from the Londoner, each cut exploring an array of influences and flavours. It’s clear that Blacksmif’s aural gaze is wide, as he melds together the best of jazz, garage and soul to produce a sumptuous debut. Skippy, 2-step percussion, subtle vocal samples and soulful chords all combine to deliver an EP drenched in atmosphere, texture and emotion.

For a label debut it really is impressive, so make sure you cop that on March 2nd. You can preview all four tracks here

MakeItGood x FatKidOnFire #54 - Nikki Acute

Seeing as it’s Friday, and nearly the weekend, we thought we would release our next MakeItGood x FatKidOnFire feature. This feature is our first video interview in the series, and we are so stoked that Nikki Acute stepped up and had a chat with us!

For those of you who don’t know, Nikki runs Acute Promotions Agency, Family Tree Records and Synchronicity Records. With already 001 and 002 releases out on Family Tree, and the fact that she is representing a handful of well known DJs/Producers, it’s fair to say that Nikki is making moves within the dubstep scene.

We caught up with her and here’s what she said…

Make sure you follow her on Twitter and check out all the websites to keep up to date with what’s going on! Also a big thanks to the guys at We Free The Box for filming and editing this interview!

Let us know what you think of Nikki’s interview via Twitter or Facebook.
